The Lichen Weevil! An incredibly mysterious species, they live only in forests above 700 feet in Papua New Guinea. Why they have their own little ecosystems on their backs is unknown, but their anatomy certainly encourages it! They have ridges and hairs to encourage plant growth and to trap spores. I wonder if their little friends even realize that their whole existence is spent on the back of a giant Weevil. What if WE don’t even realize our entire existence is spent on the back of a giant Weevil?
