The Petroleum Fly! “One of the chief biological curiosities of the world,” these critters spend their larval to pupal lives entirely in oil! First and chiefly found in the La Brea tar pits, populations have been found elsewhere, but nowhere near as stable. Weirdly enough, the adults tend to steer clear of any oil, so make of that what you will (maybe they’re all just youth-hating curmudgeons).
